Gerbera jamesonii, the Barbeton daisies, are part of the daisy family, Asteraceae. They are short-lived perennials and are popular for indoor colour, flowering in tufts of pink, orange or yellow.
Because they prefer summer rainfall, they tend to be a little difficult during the Cape winters. Take care that they do not become waterlogged. When planting outside, where they ultimately are happiest, make sure they get a sunny spot and are not planted too deep.
