Starke Ayres has been serving the public of Cape Town since the late 1870's. We believe in supporting our community, growing together and benefiting society at large. We would love to hear from you if you have any suggestions. Below are a few fun initiatives we support.
branch prides itself in being part of the surrounding community as well as the greater green Cape Town.
The recent Mandela Day celebrations on the 18th of July were taking place all over South Africa. Adding to the festivities, Starke Ayres donated groundcover plants to SHAWCO. The donation went a long way in helping plant a large garden in Khayelitsha at the K2 centre. Previously, the area was bare and sandy but with the help of the children and volunteers, the area now truly brightens up their learning centre. Click here

We recently partnered with Greenpop at the 2014 Platbos Reforest Fest. Hundreds of volunteers came together to plant 10 002 trees (and had fun doing it) over two successive weekends! All told, 622 people planted a total of 10 002 trees over both weekends, bringing the total number of trees planted at the Platbos Forest Reserve to date to 18243 by Greenpop through the Reforest Fests. In addition to being one of the project’s most valued sponsors, Starke Ayres provided hundreds of seed packs, fertiliser packs, and several hampers. This partnership represents a valuable connection between two organisations committed to the environment and sustainability.
One of our customers is willingly greening her neighbourhood. We are supplying her with the plants to make this initiative possible. Here are a few before photos. Scroll down for the after photos...
Below are some photos of the sites after planting. Watch this space for more photos once the plants are established...
WEST COAST VILLAGE BRANCH:
Our West Coast Village (WCV) branch is dedicated to greening the schools in its vicinity. We believe in a green future for our country, the youth and their education. WCV supports Elkanah House with their recycling project. We recently received a Certificate of Appreciation from the recycling committee. One of our horticulturists drops our recycling at the school every Wednesday morning, as can be seen below.
Starke Ayres also sponsors the U11A soccer team at the Sunningdale Football Club (across the road from the garden centre, see images below). We are now proud sponsors for the second year running.
Below are a few photos of the fun had while gardening at one of the nearby schools as well as one of our many fun days for the kids held at the garden centre.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or suggestions regarding our Community Responsibility. We look forward to hearing from you!
